West Virginia Penitentiary is very excited to offer, for the first-time ever, a limited number of  Virtual Tours! 

These tours will offer a look at various aspects of West Virginia Penitentiary’s rich history from the comfort of your home. 

Viewers will have the opportunity to ask our tour guide questions throughout the tour.

West Virginia Penitentiary Virtual Tours are presented live through a private, closed Facebook Group. A Facebook account is THE ONLY WAY to access this tour. The group is active for 2 days following the live tour, during that period virtual tour ticket holders may rewatch the tour as often as they like! At the conclusion of the 2 day period, the group will be closed and there will be no further access to the Live virtual Tour.

The purchase confirmation email will contain the link to the Tour’s Facebook Group with directions on how to join the group. When you are ready to join the group, login to your Facebook account and go to the link contained in the confirmation email. *VERY IMPORTANT* When you click “Join Group” you will be asked to enter an email address. You MUST enter the EMAIL ADDRESS USED AT THE TIME OF TICKET PURCHASE. Only the email address used at time of ticket purchase will grant access to the group. Please allow 24-48 hours for verification and approval to join.

How long does a  Virtual Tour last?
Tours last approximately two hours.

Do I have to have a Facebook account to participate?
Yes. This is the only platform our tour is available on.

How do I access the Virtual Tour Facebook Group?
You will receive a confirmation email from us that includes the link and access instructions to join the Facebook group.

I purchased the tour as a gift for someone else. How do they get access?
The purchase confirmation email containing the link to the Tour’s Facebook Group and directions on how to join the group will be sent to the purchaser. You should share that information with the gift recipient. When they are ready to join the group, they should login to their Facebook account and go to the link contained in the confirmation email. *VERY IMPORTANT* When the gift recipient clicks “Join Group” they will be asked to enter an email address. They MUST enter the PURCHASER’S EMAIL ADDRESS, NOT THEIR OWN. Only the email address used at time of purchase will grant access to the group. They should then allow 24-48 hours for verification and approval to join.

If the screen says I lost my connection during the tour, what should I do?
Refresh your browser and check your internet connection. In rare instances, you should log out of Facebook and log back in to access the live event or look to see if a new feed has started below.

Can I rewatch the tour after it ends?
Yes. You can rewatch the tour as many times as you like for up to 2 days after the initial live presentation.

How do I ask questions?
You can submit your questions under the comments during the virtual tour. We’ll do our best to answer.
