Each attendee must complete a signed Paranormal Waiver/Agreement. Follow the link in your confirmation email to sign online and forward the link to your group coming with you or print the Agreement found here:
18 years of age and older. No exceptions.
A photo ID card or passport is required for age verification upon check-in.
Please note: We do not hold paranormal events beginning in mid-September throughout October due to our haunted house and other Halloween events.
Spend the Night at West Virginia Penitentiary
Want to see what it is really like to spend the night in prison — but with no living residents? Book your overnight with us for a ghost hunt!
Tour the facility with a guide for a 90-minute guided tour, and then roam the halls on your own. See who you can find “living” in the Sugar Shack or North Hall, look for patients in the psych ward, or try to sit in a cell — we dare you!
Bring a friend, bring all your friends, or come by yourself! We require that each person respect the facility and other investigators attending the event. Please, no intentional scaring, screaming, loud talking, writing on walls, or defacing of any kind.
Make sure to bring your flashlights, cameras, extra batteries, and any investigative equipment that you might need!! You are allowed to bring snacks, refreshments, and coolers. Open-toed shoes and heels are not allowed.
Public Ghost Hunts are for individuals 18 years of age and older.
NO ALCOHOL! Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in our parking areas and/or inside of our facility. Alcohol consumption is not permitted prior to your event. You will be considered a risk to yourself, other participants, and our property. If alcohol consumption is suspected, you will be removed from, or denied entry to, the event and not issued a refund.

*You ARE REQUIRED to purchase Ghost Hunt tickets online.
*Tickets are NOT sold at the door for this event.
*You must be 18 years of age or older to attend this tour. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made, please do not ask! A photo ID or passport is required upon check-in.
*There is no heat or air conditioning throughout our facility. Our facility will be extremely HOT in the summer and extremely COLD in the winter. Please dress according to the weather. This tour does involve climbing stairs, as well as walking outdoors. Most areas of this tour are not wheelchair accessible.
*The front gate will be locked prior to the beginning of the tour. Do not be late. All staff and attendees will go on tour together, and we will not be able to let you in.
*Please bring in with you all items that you will need from your vehicle upon arrival, as you will not be permitted to leave the front gate and return. There is abundant space in the main lobby and museum area for your belongings.
*The smoking section is located on the South Yard. This is the only area you are permitted to use ANY tobacco products.
*Yes, we have a restroom.
*Ghost Hunts are not offered every night or every weekend. See our calendar of availability by clicking the “Book Now” button below.
*We are closed for the season from December 1st to April 1st.
*No pets are permitted for any paranormal investigations or the haunted house events including: Public Ghost Hunts, Private Paranormal Investigations, Twilight Tours, Thriller Thursdays, Dungeon of Horrors, and North Walk.
IMPORTANT: Please check your confirmation email for a link to our online Paranormal Waiver or print and complete the paper Paranormal Agreement to bring along with you. Every attendee must complete an individual agreement. You will not be permitted to investigate without an online signed waiver or printed paper form. The online waiver link can be forwarded to all of your ticket holders.
